Why HRIS?

HRIS will allow Faculty, Staff and Departments to manage key business processes and access accurate and timely information on their units.
Overall, HRIS will:

Improve Operational Efficiency

Our current processes rely on paper-based transactions and are labor-intensive to maintain.  Many of these processes flow through various departments at the University and it is difficult for the originator to know where a process is at any given time.
After the HRIS implementation, many of our large volume business processes (e.g., recording and approving timesheets, gaining signatures to submit requests to HR) will be completed online. This should reduce the turnaround time for some transactions.

Be a central source for data

We currently have multiple systems for managing data. This results in fragmented data, duplication of effort and a probability of inaccuracies from entering multiple data, multiple times across multiple systems.

The HRIS will be a central source for accurate and up-to-date information related to human resources (hiring, time-tracking, attendance, etc).

Give faculties and departments direct access to their data

Our multiple fragmented systems, legal reporting and data privacy obligations prevent departments from having direct access to their personal data. They currently get this information by requesting it from the HR department.

The HRIS will allow us to implement proper security controls so that authorized individuals within departments can access their unit's data while restricting access to data not relevant to them.

Vision

  • Provide better services to faculty, staff, and departments.
  • Provide meaningful, consistent, and timely data and information to end users.
  • Update technology infrastructure for more effective and flexible delivery of new systems.
  • Promote efficiencies by converting paper processes to electronic form.
  • Provide integration for end users, with lifetime "person" management.
  • Work with units to implement better business processes for more effectively managing business functions.
